The Erpenbach Institute develops the Erpenbach Research Architecture: an open, growing research architecture for questions of reality, knowledge, behaviour, decision, temporality and coherence across human, artificial, animal, cultural, planetary and physically-dynamic systems.

different here

The Erpenbach Institute does not develop individual tools, methods or consulting formats. It works on research architectures that make fundamental connections between reality, knowledge, behaviour, decision, governance, coexistence and future visible. The individual projects exist within a larger research framework.

The Architecture

At the centre stands the Erpenbach Research Architecture (ERA).

It connects theoretical models, hypotheses and research fields into a growing research structure. ERA asks how systems become visible, describable, comparable, decidable and governable.

Why
it matters

Many systems are only understood, regulated or evaluated once their fundamental order has already been established.

At that point, problems appear as individual technical, institutional or moral questions – even though they emerged from deeper structures.

The Erpenbach Institute investigates these structures before they become fixed in systems, institutions, technologies, worldviews or futures.

Foundational principle

What a system can recognise, decide, compare, be responsible for or preserve depends on the order that already exists beforehand. The Erpenbach Research Architecture investigates not only visible outcomes, but the structures from which reality, knowledge, behaviour, decision and coexistence emerge.

Working with the Institute

The Erpenbach Institute works selectively with institutions, organisations and project partners whose questions show a structural, conceptual or research-related fit with the Erpenbach Research Architecture.
