Eva M. Erpenbach

Eva M. Erpenbach develops research architectures for questions whose relationships extend beyond the boundaries of individual disciplines, systems and levels of analysis. Her work centres on how reality is apprehended, knowledge is formed, behaviour arises, decisions are made and different forms of coexistence are shaped.

This work led to the development of the Erpenbach Research Architecture as an open and continually growing research architecture. It connects independent reference architectures, models and standards without restricting their subjects to a single discipline or predetermined field of application. Its scope includes relationships within and across human, artificial, animal, cultural, planetary and physically dynamic systems.

Eva M. Erpenbach’s work examines the structural conditions under which systems observe, distinguish, respond, decide and relate to one another. It also considers how knowledge, evidence, responsibility, temporality and coherence emerge and become effective within complex constellations.

As Founder & Scientific Director of the Erpenbach Institute, she is responsible for the conceptual and scientific development of the Erpenbach Research Architecture and for the documentation and publication of its reference works. The architecture is not conceived as a completed model, but as an extensible research framework from which new questions, connections and fields of application can emerge.
