Guest Essay Publication and Author Rights

Version 1.0 | Effective from: 21 October 2026

These terms apply to future Guest Essays after the author’s individual acceptance. Existing contributions remain governed by their previous agreements. Research Dialogues are not covered by these terms.

Deutsche Fassung

1. Authorship and Copyright

Guest essays remain the intellectual property of their respective authors. Authors retain their copyright and responsibility for the arguments, interpretations and conclusions expressed in their contributions.

Upon written approval of the final version for publication and acceptance of these terms, the author grants Erpenbach Institute OÜ a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide licence for the duration of copyright protection, subject to applicable statutory rights.

This licence permits the Institute to reproduce, publish and make the contribution publicly available on its website and to include it, without substantive alteration and with full author attribution, in free-of-charge digital collections of its guest essays, including downloadable PDF compilations.

The Institute may also share links and brief excerpts for the purpose of identifying and promoting the published contribution.

Copyright is not transferred. No Creative Commons licence applies unless separately agreed. Printed editions, commercial anthologies, substantive adaptations and sublicensing require separate authorisation.

2. Republication

Authors may republish their contributions elsewhere, including on personal websites, professional platforms and in other publications.

Republications must acknowledge the Erpenbach Institute as the original publication venue and include a link to the original contribution wherever technically possible.

3. Original Language

Guest essays are published in their original language, including on the Institute’s German-language pages.

Any translation requires the author’s separate consent and approval of the translated version.

4. Editorial Independence and Corrections

The Institute respects the intellectual independence of its contributors and does not prescribe their arguments or conclusions.

Substantive editorial changes require the author’s prior approval.

Minor typographical or formatting corrections may be made in consultation with the author without a public correction notice.

Material factual corrections or changes affecting the interpretation of a published contribution are agreed with the author and documented with a dated correction notice.

5. Publication Continuity and Withdrawal

Guest essays are intended to form part of the Institute’s permanent publication record.

Withdrawal or removal following publication is not offered as a routine editorial option.

Requests for voluntary removal outside the exercise of statutory rights may be considered where substantial legal, ethical or factual concerns justify an exception.

This editorial assessment does not restrict or determine the exercise of mandatory statutory rights. Authors retain all applicable legal rights, including rights relating to withdrawal of their work.

Where removal is legally required or otherwise agreed, the Institute will determine whether a neutral bibliographic or editorial notice is appropriate and legally permissible. No public withdrawal notice is issued automatically solely because an author has requested removal.

6. Final Approval

The author receives the prepared publication page for final review and approval.

Publication proceeds only after the author has provided written approval of the final version and accepted the applicable publication terms.

7. Governing Law and Language

These publication terms and the contractual licence granted to Erpenbach Institute OÜ are governed by the laws of the Republic of Estonia.

This choice of law does not affect any statutory rights or protections that cannot lawfully be excluded or waived under applicable law.

In the event of any discrepancy between the English and German versions of these publication terms, the English version shall prevail.
